(Proverbs 14:15) The simple (foolish) believe anything.
This Proverb is straightforward.
The biblically unwise and naive are gullible because they have no eternal standard of truth or ethics. In contrast, the Bible is the ultimate standard of truth for Christians—not pastors or prophets or churches.
People who are fools—lacking the wisdom of God—easily swallow almost any fantasy or faddish spirituality that comes along, even things taught by demons. They are not grounded in the revealed truth of God—how God created us to live life. They lack discernment and critical thinking.
Christians should test everything against biblical truth. We should not believe immediately every sermon we hear, or book we read. It does not mean we are judgmental. It does not mean we think we know everything. It simply means we have a mental filter of reality that we must sift all things through.
With the Holy Spirit within us and the objective truth of the Bible, we can discern between the wheat and the chaff of this world.
We must test everything--hfold onto the truth and throw out the rest. Christians can also wander away into “foolishness” unless our minds are being continually renewed by biblical truth.
Are you discerning? Do you test everything according to what the Bible teaches? Do you believe every sermon you hear, or book you read, or what someone tells you?
Be alert. Be wise. Be discerning.
