(Proverbs 30:1) I am weary, God, but I will be victorious.

How can a Christian be weary (weak, tired) and victorious (prevailing, overcoming) at the same time?

In our own human minds this Proverb seems impossible. But, in 2 Corinthians 12:9, God tells us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

This Bible passage sheds light on the meaning of this Proverb; we are not victorious in our own human strength or strife, but through God’s grace and power.

This is not a self-help Proverb. Even when we are weary, weak, and tired, God’s intimate presence and empowering grace is available to us. In Romans 8:35-37, the apostle Paul tells us that “nothing can separate us from the love of God—neither trouble or hardship or persecution or famine. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, the apostle Paul sums up this Proverb, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Even in those times when we are weak, tired, exhausted, and just holding on (this happens many times in our lives), we are forced to let go of trying to live a Christian life through our own human efforts.

We humble ourselves and are fully dependent on God. We are once again reminded that Christian living is totally dependent on God’s grace and power indwelling our lives.

Then we don’t give up but prevail; we are then more than conquerors IN Christ.
